May 2011 CEE AGM Report:
The Communications/Excellence in Education Committee is committed to the celebration of teaching and learning. Throughout the year CEE is involved in the promotion of several events: World Teachers' Day, The Premier's Awards,
and Education Week. Highlights of our year include the Marion Drysdale Awards and our own District 29 Excellence
in Teaching Awards.
Marion Drysdale Awards:
This year, the theme of the Marion Drysdale Awards was Become the Solution: Words into Action. This year our committee reviewed several pieces of creative and persuasive work submitted by students in our district. We are proud to announce that Tess Reid, a senior student from Centre Hasting Secondary School, won the Marion Drysdale Award at the Regional Level in the Video/Audio/Animation Category for her work entitled "The Pale Blue Dot".
Excellence in Teaching Award:
In preparation for our Annual Celebration Dinner, our committee is working towards the promotion and collection of nominations, and the selection of the recipient for the Excellence in Teaching Award. This award is intended to recognize teachers who are committed to the profession and demonstrate innovative and creative teaching methods, encourage enthusiasm for learning, recognize the value of community diversity, as well as the integration and sharing of community resources in the classroom. This award also recognizes personal commitment to lifelong learning and the personification of strengths and qualities that OSSTF has consistently promoted.
