May 2011 AGM Health & Safety Report:
The D29 Heath & Safety Committee met twice this year to discuss numerous issues and items of concern to them and the members at their school. Many concerns/issues were discussed with a particular emphasis on the need for training. Doug Middleton (H&S Officer) was also on hand to present some very important information to the H&S reps re Bill 157 (Safe Schools Act), Bill 168 (WorkPlace Violence), and most recently Bill 41 (Defibrillators in Public Premises). Other pertinent information regards local safety audits/H&S duties was also presented/discussed. Scott Young (Executive Liaison) brought these same issues forward to the D29 Executive seeking release time/funding for both training and the creation of an information guide for D29 H&S reps. As a result, some of the work around the information guide was started at the April 14th meeting, with more work planned for later in the spring. Our hope is to have this guide ready for the fall of 2011. We are currently looking at various avenues for training. Details to follow later.
