May 2011 Human Rights/Status of Women Committee AGM Report:
Our committee meets approximately every other month. This year we were involved in the following activities:
• Provided information and resource material to schools from White Ribbon Campaign
• Arranged for Eric Hargreaves to speak in each secondary school regarding homophobia
• Provided information and resource material to schools for Black History Month
• Provided a celebratory cake and/or guest speaker to schools to mark International Women's Day
• Distributed information to schools and asked for feedback regarding School Fees legislation
• Members attended OSSTF Provincial Status of Women & Human Rights Conferences
• Received information regarding the work of Provincial Status of Women & Human Rights Committees
• Presented workshop during District Leadership Training Weekend regarding a teacher's Duty to Report regarding Child Abuse
• Attended the Board's Equity and Inclusivity Committee on behalf of District 29
• Provided support in the form of networking and some resources to teachers trying to set up GSA's in schools
And various other efforts including providing material in the form of posters, stickers, buttons, etc to HPEDSB secondary schools.
