WHAT DO I GET FOR MY DUES?

 

Advantage #1- Protection

This is the reason for the union movement. Collective bargaining and a collective agreement that is enforced by the Federation provide economic and professional protection for members.

Advantage #2 - Communications

Look at the latest publications to arrive in your mailbox : Update and Education Forum. In addition to these two Provincial publications, you will also receive our award-winning District Newsletter and our political action publication called Off the Wall. You will also be able to access our Amie award website which has been completed revamped for the 2005-2006 school year.

Advantage #3 - Voice

OSSTF is a powerful education lobby at Queen’s Park. The Federation is in direct contact with the Minister, the leaders of the Opposition Parties and appropriate government officials to try to ensure the economic and professional well-being of its members.

 





 

Advantage #4 - Support

Certification, pensions, personal counselling, professional development, legal representation and negotiations support – these are but a few of the ongoing support items offered daily by OSSTF to members across Ontario. This is the strength of OSSTF.

Advantage #5 - Advice

In every area related to your professional life, help and expertise are available from District Office as well as the secretariat and support staff at Provincial Office.

Advantage #6 - Network

Crisis communication is carried out through the fax network, Update, the provincial and local web sites and numerous other communication techniques that OSSTF has established. Our Communications/Political Action Department is in direct contact with the province’s news media and arranges effective communications, coverage and support for crises on very short notice.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Advantage # 7- Grants & Awards

OSSTF provides research grants and awards to members and, through the Marion Drysdale Awards, to students as well. Members wishing to avail themselves of the research grants should contact the Educational Services Department at Provincial Office. OSSTF also supports Excellence in Education projects, designed to promote both OSSTF and public education

Advantage # 8- Research

OSSTF continually conducts, supports and comments on educational research. Members receive regular updates on issues of educational interest through our Critical Issues Monographs.

Advantage # 9- Strength

OSSTF is acknowledged to be one of the strongest educational unions in Canada. We benfit from the solid relationships we have established with other unions by belonging to the Ontario Federation of Labour and the Canadian Labour Congress

Members support each other through the union. The common interests and abilities of OSSTF members make us our own best allies.
